Figures of Speech of Repetition

How God’s Word Interprets Itself Integrity of the Word Cinardo Home (Rutherford, NJ) Carr, Jesse 11/04/2010 11/04/2010

The goal of this teaching is to help people learn how to identify figures of speech, specifically regarding repetition, so they can further understand and believe the Bible in their personal lives. Figures of speech are like what condiments or spices are to food to help accentuate the flavor. Explanations and examples are provided for the four figures of speech: anaphora, polysyndeton, asyndeton, and polyptoton. The point of recognizing figures of speech is not to be able to identify the formal name of each figure, but, instead, to understand what God wants highlighted. Misunderstanding figures of speech can and has caused issues leading to wrong practice and division. In the Bible, repetition helps drive home what God wants to be emphasized including how to renew our minds, what the love of God does, the profit of each manifestation of the spirit, and so much more.

Following God: Examples in Action

Following God: Examples in Action Leadership and Service Old Testament Examples Greenkill Conference Center Carr, Jesse Carr, Jerry 06/27/2018 06/27/2018

This teaching looks at examples of people following and not following God. We can follow God by revelation and by knowing His Word from the Bible. The Word is truth and the baseline of our decision making. The world’s way is not working, and people are hungry for real answers. We need God for everything in our lives. When we are given a charge by God, we go. The apostles in Acts 5 followed the angel of the Lord’s instruction to speak God’s Word. Philip ran to serve the Ethiopian eunuch by helping him with God’s Word. Elijah didn’t get all the information from God right away but followed one step at a time. Saul knew the commandment of the Lord but chose not to follow it. We have the greatest revelation ever given for us to follow in God’s Word. Following Christ leads to great rewards if we are doing it according to God’s Word. Obeying God gets us the victory, and that’s how to be more than a conqueror.

Make Your Mind Behave

“To change our minds, we must change the thoughts that are fed into our minds.” In this teaching, we cover the importance of managing our thinking and feeding God’s Word to ourselves. The teacher describes the process of changing one’s habit patterns thorough the example of a daily routine and covers specific things God says about our minds and our responsibility to control what we think. We look at the Apostle Paul as an example of someone who woke up every day knowing exactly what his life was about, both before and after he began working for the one true God. We finish by reading verses in 1 Corinthians, Philippians, and Romans that emphasize the importance of being around other believers and living with people who help us renew our minds to God’s Word.

The Benefits of Being Together and Giving

In this teaching, we look at the Church at Philippi as an example of how believers should live by being specifically concerned with the needs of other believers. The teacher compares the Philippians with the descriptions of believers in Acts, Chapters 2 and 4 looking at how they gave of their abundance to meet the needs of others. We also turn to 1 Thessalonians, Luke, and 2 Corinthians to see what God says about giving versus coveting and how other believers should be more important to us than any material possession.
