1 Thessalonians Chapter 2
Leadership and Service Cinardo Home (Rutherford, NJ) Gilmore, Michael 02/01/2009
This teaching goes through the second chapter of 1 Thessalonians. The teacher discusses the manner of life Paul, Silas, and Timothy showed towards the believers in Thessalonica. We see the heart of a genuine leader showing their life as an example of service to the believers as they cared for, protected and exhorted the believers as their own child because their glory and joy was the believers.

The teaching shows us the practical side of service in Ephesians and how we live what we learned in the doctrinal side of Ephesians. It shows us how to have our lives in balance with the doctrine of Ephesians walking worthy of our calling by walking in love, walking as children of light, and walking circumspectly. It shows how the Judeans and Gentiles had to come together to live in unity in the One Body. It talks of the gift ministries that help the perfecting of the saints in their walk. We are shown that the way to live the practical side of Ephesians is by the renewed mind.

We see how at one time we were dead in trespasses and sins, missing the mark, and making wrong turns, but, because of God’s mercy, His lovingkindness, and His compassion, we were saved by grace and made to sit together in heavenly places. Because of what Christ did for us, we, as the Church of the Body, are God’s masterpiece, have peace and access to God, and are continuously being built together for an habitation of God.

The teaching shows the differences between the doctrinal Epistles of Romans and Ephesians and what their focuses are; the focus of Romans is on the individual while Ephesians shows what God has done in grace for the One Body of Christ together. The explanations of some words are given including holy, without blame, in Christ, predestination, adoption, accepted, repent, blotted out, and refreshing. Then, the teacher goes over the two prayers of Ephesians.
